The sample calculation was further confirmed with the
Power Analysis and Sample Size (NCSS LLC) and Stata (Stata Corp LLC) programs, for which the resulting numerosity is 41 participants, assuming null hypothesis (Ho):d=d0, alternative hypothesis (Ha):d≠d0, and considering as study parameters α=.025; mean of group 1 (ma1): 0.000; power: 0.800; mean of group 2 (ma2): 1.000; delta (difference of means, delta): 0.500; expected difference (da): 1.000; and SD of difference (sd_d): 2.000.

The dataset we built in this work, called D3 TEC (TEC de Monterrey’s Depression Detection Dataset), stands out for providing 2 new types of data previously unavailable in voice depression classification: Spanish recordings and simultaneous recordings using both professional and smartphone microphones. Moreover, audio quality standards are higher than most publicly available voice depression datasets.

This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Pediatrics Department of Hospital de S. João, a public tertiary care hospital in northern Portugal, from April to December 2024. Children and their caregivers were invited to participate during scheduled pediatric pulmonology appointments. This study followed the guidelines on measurement properties for patient-reported outcomes of the COSMIN (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments) initiative.

For participants in the PD group, an appointment is arranged at the APM, while control group participants attend a meeting at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. During these sessions, the study’s objectives, procedures, and expectations are thoroughly explained to ensure participants have a comprehensive understanding of their role and responsibilities.
