Wang et al [10] conducted a randomized controlled trial in a largely African American population, comparing a smartphone-based behavioral intervention for weight loss and glycemic control versus paper diaries or usual care. The smartphone group experienced a 2.73% weight loss at 6 months, compared with 0.13% weight loss in the paper diary group and a 0.49% weight gain in the usual-care group [10].
