Using Mobile Health Tools to Assess Physical Activity Guideline Adherence and Smoking Urges: Secondary Analysis of mActive-Smoke

Baseline characteristics of m Active-Smoke participants (N=53). a Categories defined by International Physical Activity Questionnaire guidelines. Participants accumulated a median of 7807 steps per day (IQR 5383-10,824). Of 53 participants, 31 (58%) met the recommended 30 min per day of MVPA on 1 or more days over the study duration. mActive-Smoke: A Prospective Observational Study Using Mobile Health Tools to Assess the Association of Physical Activity With Smoking Urges

This procedure is recommended for panel data that are unbalanced or unequally spaced [50], and appropriate when the number of time points (T) exceeds the number of cross-sections (N) [51]—both of which are characteristic of our data. Furthermore, this model allowed us to correct for heteroscedasticity—unequal variance of the dependent variable across a range of values of an independent variable—which can lead to inefficient parameter estimates and faulty inferences [52].
