To identify tweets containing metaphors, 2 coders (CLR and CM) evaluated a random subset of 1000 tweets about hypertension and 4000 tweets about diabetes for the presence of metaphor, adjudicating differences with a larger group that included 3 other authors. The characteristics of the metaphors were coded into metaphor types.
